Will it be "you" after "you"?
This performance is part of my PhD research on applied theatre for university students on the prevention of intimate partner violence, and it will serve as the first practice of my research.
The aim of the performance is an auto-biographical solo performance exploration of the damage that second-hand IPV has on a child and the struggle to form healthy relationships in later life. Transform the IPV experience through concrete performance to form healthier relationships. The solo performance is characterized by a fusion of auto-ethnography and storytelling techniques. The performer presents a profoundly intimate account, incorporating personal anecdotes derived from either their own encounters or those of others. The tale delves into the trajectory of an individual who has experienced intimate partner violence (IPV),shedding light on the intricate range of emotions involved, the recurring pattern of abusive behavior, and the obstacles encountered when attempting to escape from an abusive partnership.This fusion of autobiography and solo performance allows the performer to stand as both a creative practitioner and a researcher, exploring their own identity and sharing their story through dance or other artistic mediums.

She is particularly interested in Irish-language performing arts and oral traditions, Irish traditional music, creative practice, women poet-composers, and histories of thought as represented in Irish-language song and poetry. She will present on her work on the liminality of song, the generation of ideas, and the liquidity of self-hood in sean-nós singing performance.

“You should all have a book. Does everyone have a book? This book is part of the play. In a minute, we’ll all open this book and we’ll invite you to turn the pages.” In this play, the book, the script, holds the performance. Through the book, the writer manipulates audience and cast together to all become part of the same narrative. The book he’s written predicts it all: the equations, the black hole and all the words we’ll speak until the end. On this last day, at this last hour, a defector finds her voice and returns. Can she break free from the script? In this play, presented through stage action and illustrated text, audience and actors turn the book’s pages together, they study the images, and they sometimes share the words out loud. This one-day workshop (10am - 5pm) will cover:
- How to perform with a mask: a very freeing experience for performers!
- The myriad characters: Servants, Lovers, Captains, and the Masters/Mistresses.
- The use of Space.
- Development of Narrative.
Led by Howard Gayton (Ophaboom Theatre, East 15 - London, ESMAE – Portugal, Goldsmith’s – London) the workshop is FREE, and open to all students in the Communication Drama and Film department.

‘King Leir and his Three Daughters’ is a dramatic narrative that retells a famous story with roots in fairy tales from around the world, which has been explored using Michael Chekhov’s approach (including his Psychological Gesture) and eurythmy, a discipline that Chekhov deemed essential for his approach to actor training.

This play is an 80s female led interpretation of Oliver Goldsmith’s 18th century classic, ‘She Stoops to Conquer.’ With the party season fast approaching, two friends, Marlow and Hastings travel to Hardcastle House ready to meet the ever popular Kate and Constance, daughter and niece of Mr Hardcastle. However, owing to Mr Hardcastle’s step son Tony and his flare for mischief, Marlow and Hastings make fools of themselves leading to Mr and Mrs Hardcastle turning against them. Yet more trouble ensues when Kate and Constance undermine their guests to gain the upper hand in this comedy of manners, a play toying with the absurdities of social class.

A Beautiful History

This is a play that explores the four remaining days before Oswald Mosley’s Blackshirts march their way through the Jewish-majority town of Stepney. With the government apathetic to the fascist threat, a local family and a crew of dockworkers find themselves embroiled in the resistance to the march, whether they like it or not. Set in East London, 1936, it is a fictionalisation of the events leading up to the Battle of Cable Street, a demonstration in which anti-fascists fought against police in an attempt to prevent fascists from marching through the town. Despite only being 45 minutes long, this play manages to fit in a lot historical context, alongside two parallel stories of locals dealing with the politically hostile atmosphere of the time.

Two travellers stumble upon HollowAlley, a western town in Southern America. This town's beloved new sheriff, with his dark and violent roots brings prosperity and wealth to the town's people. Yet the notorious priest thieves for his own personal gain and life of extravagance, drying the town poor. The travellers get mixed into the centre of the town's chaos after being mistaken for wanted bank robbers. They watch as the town is divided and observe the passionate affair of a broken man.
