Mr Felix Barrett

Artistic director: Punchdrunk

Artistic Director of Punchdrunk and a graduate and Honorary Fellow in Drama, University of Exeter, Felix has conceived, designed, and directed all of Punchdrunk’s productions since founding the company in 2000. He is a Critics’ Circle Drama Award winner (Best Design, Faust, 2006) and one of the first recipients of a Paul Hamlyn Foundation Breakthrough Fund Award (2008-2011), which supports exceptional arts practitioners in the development of their vision. His work with Punchdrunk includes: The Firebird Ball; Faust; The Masque Of The Red Death; It Felt Like A Kiss (a collaboration between Punchdrunk, documentary film-maker Adam Curtis, and musician Damon Albarn for Manchester International Festival); Sleep No More (a collaboration with American Repertory Theatre); The Duchess Of Malfi (with English National Opera); The Crash Of The Elysium (for Manchester International Festival); The Borough (a co-production with Aldeburgh Music). Felix also designed and directed the company's award-winning New York debut production of Sleep No More, which has been playing to sell out audiences since 2011. Other recent work includes directing (with Tom Morris) the Stoppard/Previn Every Good Boy Deserves Favour at the National Theatre in 2009 and acting as Creative Director for Shakira’s 2011 world tour. In 2012 Felix collaborated with the Massachusetts Institution of Technology as part of a NESTA funded R&D project, experimenting with fusing online and real world theatrical platforms. Felix also designed the McQ Autumn – Winter 2012 show for London Fashion week, working with Creative Director Sarah Burton. Most recently, Felix directed and designed The Drowned Man: A Hollywood Fable, Punchdrunk’s most ambitious project to date.
