Dr David Fallow

Honorary Fellow

Dr David Fallow is an Honorary Research Fellow in the Department of Drama at the University of Exeter.

 

Following a bachelors’ degree in Law at the University of Aberdeen in 1977, David Fallow’s first career was in investments where he worked as a Vice President of Mellon Bank, a Senior Vice President of U.S. Bank and President of two investment management companies in the United States.

 

In 2001, he returned to the UK to pursue studies in the creative arts, beginning with a Diploma in Applied Arts from Plymouth School of Art and a bachelors’ degree in Theatre at Dartington College of Arts. He then undertook an MA in Staging Shakespeare at the University of Exeter Department of Drama.  He followed this with a doctorate on the finances of the Shakespeare family, completed in 2011. 

 

His current research focuses on the finances of early modern theatre in London and the Shakespeare family specifically. His work has been published in Studies and Theatre and Performance and in the recent alternative biography of William Shakespeare, Shakespeare’s Circle with Cambridge University Press, in a chapter on John Shakespeare. 

 

His broadcasting work on television and radio has included interviews and segments for BBC One’s Country File, the BBC World Service and American Public Radio, as well as commentary for The Guardian newspaper.
