I am particularly interested in questions of cultural participation, see my collaborative projects Ecologies of Amateur Theatre (2018) and Devising Performance: A Critical History (2015).

I am an Associate Professor of Media, Communications and Culture and the subject lead for Communications.
My research interests lie broadly in the politics of contemporary media and culture, and are grounded in the traditions of Cultural Studies. I like to ask questions about power and identity across a range of contemporary cultural forms, including film and television, sport, political communication, and video games.

I worked professionally as a performer and director for fifteen years, before taking up the position of Lecturer in Exeter in 2004. My work moves across forms of theatre, music, dance, and popular culture in a range of different contexts. My research and teaching focus on performance and culture in diverse contexts and practices.

I am a Senior Lecturer in Drama undertaking research into wellbeing, chronic pain, healing and the placebo response, in the field of Medical Humanities. I particularly interested in the intersections between sustainability, community, place, identity and wellbeing and am currently working on inter- and transdisciplinary research projects across performance scholarship, culture and ritual studies, neuropsychology and biomedicine.

I am Professor of Film at Exeter University. Most of my teaching work is on post-classical American cinema, British cinema and classical Hollywood. I have always worked on gender and culture, and have a longstanding interest in representations of sexuality and the history of censorship and classification.
